And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. “And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand." (Mark 3:24-25, NASB)

"that there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another." (1 Corinthians 12:25, NASB)

The above Scriptures demonstrate the importance of a unified church. Unity means strength which is a vital attribute in the spiritual warfare against satanic forces. Being aware of this, the Apostle Paul urges the church at Corinth not to allow differences of opinion to divide them. The same advice is still needed in the church today.

As our church continues to grow and prosper we will encounter opposition from the enemy. He has no power unless we grant it to him. Since he cannot defeat God’s church, his method is for God’s people to defeat themselves. Satan’s purpose is to divide and conquer.

As a pastor, I have learned that a lot of things that “bug” me are things that really do not matter. They are personal perks that have no bearing on the success of the church unless I allow them to become a distraction. The Devil is aware of this “weakness” of mine and he tries to exploit it (especially on Sundays). I am learning that people are not the problem; it is a spiritual enemy that I wage war against.

I want to encourage our church family to strive to work in harmony with each other. Our tastes, styles and desires may be different, but we need to focus on what we have in common.

In our Wednesday night session of Journey to the Cross, we learned that Nicodemus and the Samaritan woman at the well were very different. But they both had a common need—to be born again.

Likewise, we all need the love, grace and mercy of our Lord. We all need to experience His present in worship and reverence Him as Creator and Savior. We may disagree as to the way we enter into His present, but what is important is that we do enter in.

Jesus told the Pharisees that a kingdom which is divided cannot stand. This applies also the Kingdom of God. This is why Paul wrote:

"Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?"

              (1 Corinthians 1:13, NKJV)

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism;"                       (Ephesians 4:4-5, NKJV)

So remember that Jesus is calling us to be a unified body of baptized believers. Our enemy is not each other because our war is not of the physical, but it is spiritual. Let’s continue to stay together as one and glorify our Lord in a spirit of love and unity.

We are still asking those who can to fast on Wednesdays of each week. Our fast for May will  be laborers to the vineyard.

For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard -Matthew 20:1

As you fast remember you must also pray.  The two together will give us great power as we watch God move in our church.
