The New Piney Press FOCUSING ON GOD Volume 20, Issue 2 FEB 2012
From Our Pastor
Checks & Balances
“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be
found faithful.”
(1 Corinthians 4:2, NKJV)
Recently a few faithful members, who are also tithers, became
concerned when they heard a comment they felt indicated that the
church leadership may have not been using proper stewardship in
handling the contributions members were giving
to the church.
One of these members which I have the utmost respect for, had the
courage to bring the matter to the CFO and for that I am thankful.
This courageous member was assured that all finances are handled
in the most effective and efficient manner. It came to mind that
there may be some other members who may have similar concerns and
I want to put the entire church membership at ease.
We have set in place several procedures of checks and balances to
make sure that funds are handled in accordance with federal and
state regulations. In addition, and more importantly, our
financial handling is guided by the Word of God. I personally, go
over every detail of our finances along with the CEO, CFO and CAO.
Also, every deacon receives a monthly financial report. We meet
monthly and the church’s financial status is always a part of the
agenda.
That being said, our church is experiencing challenges in the area
of finance. I recently wrote a letter to all church leaders
informing them of our status. In that letter I stated that our
contributions were down from this time last year and our expenses
were up because of the cost to operate the New Worship Center.
I
also informed them that it is every
members responsibility to care for the church. This means
sacrifice and this starts with me. Therefore, as of August 2011 I
have elected not to receive the financial compensation due to me
while going through this challenge. I also
respectfully requested the leaders to join me in increasing
our offering by at
least 2%; adding that this small amount could have a large affect
if they all participated.
At our last Deacon’s Meeting, it was suggested that we invite all
the church family, not just the leaders, to join us in this
effort. So, I invite you to sacrifice for the Kingdom. My prayer
is that God will touch the heart of His people as we reflect on
His promise to provide all our needs.
“ Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall
you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And
rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV).

From The CFO
Joseph McElroy, Jr. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name: bring an offering, and come before Him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
(1
Chronicles 16:29 KJV)
For God’s Glory
We have been in our new worship center for almost a year now. The
word is being preached, people are being led to
Christ
and it’s all for the glory of
God.
We come together each Sunday to worship and praise
God
in a beautiful, comfortable worship center (Funded with
tithes
and
offerings).
We meet each Sunday for Bible School and each Wednesday for Bible
Training. The teaching and training from these sessions gives us
the knowledge to tell others about the goodness of our
Savior.
People are also being helped through prayer, benevolence and other
ways at New Piney Grove. This is your tithes and offerings at
work.
Throughout time
God
has used man to accomplish His plans.
God
is using us to give our tithes and offerings at NPG to accomplish
His plans for us here. Our tithes and offerings are given to
glorify
God
and to further
His
kingdom.
God
commands us to give. When we are obedient to His word, we give
Him
glory. Do not rob
God
of the glory that is rightfully
His.
Give your tithes and offerings.
It’s all for God’s glory.
How
much is my tithe?
If your pay (Wages) are then your 10% is (Tithe Amount)
From the Chairman Dea. Harry J. Taylor, Sr.
Does this only happen in corporate office?
If someone is a real gossipmonger others will surely muse over: "I
wonder what s/he says about me when I'm not around?" Which of
course, leads to the gossiper really not being trusted.
Every great relationship is built upon a foundation of trust,
reliability, honour and integrity. As a leader you are responsible
for developing healthy relationships, both with your direct
reports, your colleagues and your leadership. Involving yourself
in workplace gossip is a surefire way to undermine your
credibility as a person and as a leader. So as tempting as it is
to talk about others ... STOP IT! It doesn't serve you or them.
Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and
pay no attention to the plank that is in your own eye? (Matthew
7:3); And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The Deacon’s Den
From Deacon James Graham
I Trust God
No matter what I’m going through in life, I have faith and believe
that God will bring me out of my situation.
I simply turn all my problems and concerns to God.
I connect with Him by praying, believing and giving thanks
for blessings to come.
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in
the mercy of God forever and ever. Psalm 52:8 (NKJV)

Understanding The Cults
Cults
=
religious organizations or movements that claim to be Christian
and claim to believe the Bible. But instead of building on what
the Bible teaches they build on some “new revelation or manmade
teaching as superior to the Bible. And they deny the central
doctrine of historic orthodox, biblical Christianity mainly the
doctrines of God, Jesus Christ and Salvation.
We
must hold to the basic tenets of the Faith such as:
1.
The deity of Christ
2.
The doctrine of the Trinity
3.
The Sovereignty of God
4.
The inerrancy of Scripture
5.
The total depravity of man
6.
Salvation as a free gift from God through Christ Jesus
7.
The certainty of the final judgment
8.
And what some call deeper knowledge
9.
The Virgin Birth
10.
The Return of Christ
Our mantle should be taken from Rom. 1:16
I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the
power of God unto salvation to them who believe to the Jew first
and also to the Greek.

Can
You Say Your ABCs?
The Phillipian jailer asked, “What must I do to be saved?” People
have been asking that question every since. Whether you are saved
or not, you NEED to know the answer to this question. It is
obvious that you can’t be saved unless you know the process, but
equally important; you can’t be used by God to bring your son,
daughter or other individual to salvation either!
An easy way to answer the question, especially for children is the
“ABC’s of salvation”.
Admit
you are a sinner in need of God.
"There is no one righteous, not even one ... for all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God."
(Romans 3:10,23)
"Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
(Romans 10:13).
Believe
in Jesus (put your trust in Him) as your only hope of salvation.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life."
(John 3:16)
"To all who receive him, to those who believed in his name, he
gave the right to become children of God."
(John 1:12)
Confess
that Jesus is your Lord.
"If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in
your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
(Romans 10:9)
If you don’t know them already, learn your ABC’s today. If not for
yourself, do it for the kids, someone did it for you!

Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance and marks the beginning of Lent Season.
Ashes are used as a way to express mourning.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of a 40-day period (Jesus spent 40
days in the wilderness to fast and pray.)
This was a time of
great temptation from the enemy.
However, the time Jesus spent fasting and praying strengthened His
Spiritual Man as the physical man was weakened and brought unto
submission to God.
FAMILY SUNDAY
IS
BACK
The year 2012 will revise Family Sunday every 5th Sunday. We are a family church, composed of biological families. Family Sunday is an opportunity for
our church to become closer as a family, by learning about each
other. In the past, the Family Sunday was fruitful, but there were some issues that led to the decision to discontinue the event. Among problems was that Family Sunday, became “family competition.” We need to remember that the purpose is to glorify God for the family;
not the family glorifying itself. Nicole Smith has been appointed as Family Sunday coordinator.
If you want to be a part of Family Sunday, please contact her.
